프라이드 먼스(Pride Month)와 더불어 Black Lives Matter 무브먼트가 겹쳐지는 시기를 맞이하여, 새로운 두 점의 디지털 작품의 프린트를 판매하여 수익금 전액을 흑인 트랜스젠더를 위한 단체/기관에 기부하고자 합니다.
🏝작품 1: 제주의 여름날
한국의 제주도를 배경으로 인종의 벽을 넘어선 사랑을 하는 트랜스젠더 게이 커플을 그려보았습니다. 친가가 제주에 있고 제주 양씨 성을 가진 제게 제주는 특별한 곳입니다. 제주는 국제적인 관광지라고도 많이 소개되고 있고, 지금은 한류 열풍과 함께 한국이 국제적으로 많은 주목을 받고 있는 시대입니다. 홍보용 단어에 불과한 허울 뿐인 "국제"가 아니라, 정말 다양성과 포용력을 내재한 진정한 "국제"의 의미가 한국 안에 자리잡기를 바라는 마음으로 만든 작품입니다. "제주의 여름날"은 A4사이즈의 금색 메탈릭 페이퍼에 출력됩니다.

작호도라고도 불리는 까치, 호랑이, 소나무를 담은 유명한 민화의 한 타입을 재해석하고 변형하여 만든 작품입니다. 좋은 소식을 가져다 주는 까치, 악재를 막아주는 호랑이, 장수를 의미하는 십장생인 소나무에 미국의 블랙 팬더 파티(흑표당)을 상징하는 블랙 팬더를 함께 어우러지게 그렸습니다. 이는 현재 미국에서, 그리고 세계에서 일어나고 있는 흑인 인권 운동에 대한 지지의 표시이자 한국 내에서의, 그리고 퀴어 커뮤니티 안에서의 인종적 다양성과 포용력에 대한 염원을 의미합니다. A4사이즈의 한지에 출력됩니다.
두 작품에 대한 주문은 지금부터 7월 한달에 걸쳐 받고 매주 1회 배송을 실시할 예정입니다. 액자를 제외한 각 작품의 가격은 10,000원이며 포장/배송비는 3500원입니다. 해외 배송의 경우, 현재 코로나19 팬데믹으로 인해 일반 배송보다 5배 가량 비싼 EMS배송만 가능한 국가들도 있고, 아예 배송이 불가능한 국가도 있지만 문의를 주시면 알아보도록 하겠습니다. 작품 판매를 통해 발생한 수익금(수익금이라 함은 종이 구매와 출력에 드는 비용을 제외한 나머지 금액을 의미합니다)은 전액 흑인 트랜스젠더를 위한 한 기관/단체에 기부할 예정입니다. 현재 국내외 퀴어 지인들의 도움을 받아 제 작품의 취지, 저의 가치관과 믿음, 금전적 지원의 시급함을 고려하여 어디에 기부하게 될지를 결정하는 과정에 있습니다. 기부 후에 어떤 기관/단체를 선정하였고 몇 점의 주문을 받아 최종적으로 얼마를 기부하였는지 내역을 공개할 예정입니다.
업데이트: 오크라 프로젝트에 수익금을 기부하였습니다.
총 15장의 프린트를 판매하여 생긴 수익금 15만원을 오크라 프로젝트에 기부하였습니다. 오크라 프로젝트는 셰프를 고용하여 도움이 필요한 흑인 트랜스젠더분들께 찾아가 건강식을 요리해드리는 프로젝트입니다. 작은 금액이지만 누군가에게는 도움이 되기를, 또 아트를 통해 메세지를 조금이나마 퍼뜨릴 수 있었기를 바라며, 작품을 구매해주신 모든 분들께 감사의 말씀드립니다!

Being in the time where the importance of both Pride Month and Black Lives Matter movement is highlighted, as a queer artist, I made 2 new illustrations to share messages and support causes. I will be donating all proceeds to an organisation to support black trans lives and their rights. (Find more details below.)
🏝Illustration no.1: A Summer Day In Jeju Island
The piece shows a trans gay couple that is overcoming racial barriers in Korea's province Jeju island. To me, Jeju is a special place as my father's side family and my last name come from there. Jeju is often described and promoted as an "international" tourist spot. Not just Jeju, but also Korea is often put beside the word "international" as K-pop and Korean culture are getting popular all around the world these days. So I created this piece, hoping Korea will findsl and understand the true meaning of "international", and become more accepting and diverse. It will be printed on A4 size gold metalic paper.

The title above is tge translation of what is written in Korean in this illustration. This is a piece that parodies and recreates a type of Korean traditional folk painting that contains a magpie, a tiger, and a pine tree. The magpie brings good news, the tiger scares away bad luck, and the pine tree means long lives. Black panther being in harmony with them means my support for the Black Lives Matter movement, and my hope for acceptance and diversity in Korea, and in the LGBTQ community. It is printed on A4 size Hanji - Korean traditional paper.
I am accepting orders from now until the end of July, shipping them out once a week. The price of each piece is 10,000won and the frames are not included. The shipping fee is 3,500won per order, within Korea. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, international shipping situation is a little complicated - some countries are only accepting mails via Express Mail Service which is about 5 times more expensive than normal shipping, and some countries are not accepting mails from Korea at all. However, if you are still interested in purchasing the art, I can inquire the post office and get back to you. All proceeds (excluding the cost of purchasing paper and printing illustrations) will be donated to an organisation that focuses on and supports black trans lives and their right. I have not decided on which one yet, but I am in the process of doing a research and comparing with the help of my LGBTQ friends in and outside of Korea. I will announce which organisation I decided to donate to, and publicly show how many prints I've sold and how much I've donated in total.
UPDATE: Proceeds have been donated.
I sold 15 copies of them and made 150,000KRW. It's not a lot of money but as promised, I've donated it to an organisation that helps black trans people - Okra Project. They hire chefs and provide healthy home cooked meals to black trans people in crisis. I want to thank everyone who supported the cause!
